How is TI..EE..DI different from other organic farms? After embarking on this quest to build a forest garden, we get confronted with this query a lot. It isn’t…

Have you ever wondered how is 'Black Gold' prepared from waste?
Do you cringe every time you hand over your waste to the waste collector, knowing that even your bio-degradeable waste will probably get dumped in a landfill contributing to air pollution and global warming?
Do you want to participate in this Earth lover's movement but felt you need some guidance?
Do you need some help with composting at home?
For a small fee, Tieedi is now offering consultation for you to setup a small home composting unit! For now we will be able to come to your place in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Siliguri and hand-hold you in the initial first few months.
What's more, we are offering free consultation for first 5 households that get in touch with us!!

After we went zero waste a year ago, there is a credo that we believe here in Tieedi : "There is no such thing as waste
Just things that are outta place!"
Inspiring innovation by our volunteers!
Reposted from @nadaynee - From a sack full of plastic waste to a comfy little stool 😍
Who would have thought that turning your household waste into something reusable and functional could be so easy?
We have used 19 Eco-Bricks to build this stool. One Eco-Brick can hold a number of 80 chips packets. Within just a day, we transformed about 1520 plastics into this beautiful lil furniture. Try making Eco-Bricks at your home. It's as easy as stuffing all of your non recycable plastic waste into a bottle and making it as tight as it can get. And you got yourself a sturdy eco-friendly building material. 😁🤘

Pls read. A report by Manoresh, Project Coordinator of Salesian College, NSS team. They recently participated in the socio-ecological workshop conducted at Tieedi. Manoresh appeals everyone to join in the Plastic-Eco-Bricks movement.
And while you are at it, here are some quick interesting facts to chew upon:
1) As per our audit after the river clean-ups (#Save8MileKhola), waste of this type (non recyclable, multi-layered-plastic) makes up almost 15 to 20% of the total waste (by volume).
2) According to the survey done by the NSS students, 90% of the people admitted to the practice of burning as a way of managing this waste. The rest of the 10% 'contribute' this waste to the landfill where it is also invariably burnt.
3) Recent scientific studies have proven that burning of plastic leads to hormonal imbalance and the toxic furans and dioxins that is released is now accepted to be carcinogenic(cancer causing). This affects the small children and elderly folks the most.
4) In a one liter plastic bottle you can easily stuff 300 gms of plastic. During the workshop, one of the students even managed to stuff 590 gms of plastic in one bottle! This translates into all the plastic waste generated by one household (of 4 members) in the entire week going into just one bottle!
5) Once the plastic eco brick is made, it can be used for multiple construction works (furnitures, walls, etc.). It's standard shape, rigidity and permanency quality is used to our advantage. It will take atleast 1000 years for plastic to decay in this state.

We(NSS unit) of Salesian College Sonada, started the annual camp last month (19-24 th of February, 2019) along with twelve volunteers with the theme of Socio ecological workshop in TIEEDI (8th Mile, Sonada). The main motive behind organising this residential annual camp was to aware the people of our community regarding waste management especially in dealing with the "plastic waste" which has been the most convenient and highly used material on our daily basis.
We often post articles about plastic waste. The reason for this is that plastic is the biggest culprit when it comes to waste production, we throw away more plastic than any other material or we burn it. It's not all doom and gloom. There is a constant stream of new and innovative ideas to tackle the mounting problem of plastic waste. Thanks to Utsav da and Ashna di from TIEEDI for an eye opening solution i.e. making up an "Eco plastic brick".
Now you must be wondering what is Eco plastic brick. It is an alternative brick made out of plastic waste and a plastic bottle, which can be easily made by any anyone in the comfort of your home. You just have to stuff the plastics inside the plastic bottle until and unless the bottle is tight enough. This eco plastic brick can be used for construction purpose.
In order to convey this solution to the community, the volunteers performed skits, surveyed and launched the Eco plastic brick competition in different areas of the community.
Yesterday ie 23rd March' 2019 was our follow up programme for collecting the Eco plastic bricks from the respective localities. I was amazed to see that people were really ethusiastic and serious about making the bricks as even they knew that plastic waste is a major life endangering problem in the society. I myself was in awe to collect around 300 eco plastic bricks from a small localities in and around Gorabari,Sonada.
Ponder! What if all the earthlings started taking the same action?
Each of brick will help to rid the world of discarded plastic and make our world a better place to live in.
We are reduced to the role of a passive observer who sits and watches what our fate will be. Wake up people! Act now! It's not too late ...
Let's not be selfish cause our specie are not just the one living in this planet, if not for us then let's make this world for our future generations and other species better place to live in.

This is where the love for the mountains was first seeded for both of us. This where our wandering souls found solace and forged a deep connection with the glorious white mystic mountain, Kanchenjunga.
