Mostly rooted in mimicking nature in horticulture and agriculture systems, Permaculture design also integrates regional planning, ecology, animal husbandry, technology, architecture, community integration & international development. It is a practical and creative approach to the challenges of depleting resources and threatened life support systems in the modern era.

Get to know about the faculty
‘Teaching Where it Matters’ is a registered Non-profit ‘Permaculture Education’ Social Enterprise. The core philosophy is to make Permaculture education accessible to remote and marginal communities that are in need to build resilient systems to reduce environmental challenges using a ‘fair share’, resource fee-based, gift economy & pro-bono & partnership approach. The faculty comprises a guild of individuals with diverse skills and expertise. They have numerous years of varied experiences on a global landscape. They have taught numerous Permaculture courses from 1-day intro to 16 days PDCs with diverse communities and ecosystems plus many focused advanced permaculture courses. Recently they taught successful PDCs in Manipur, Nagaland, Goa, and Darjeeling along with numerous intro courses. They were also instrumental in setting up the Manipur Permaculture Collective and Darjeeling perma guild. During covid lockdowns, they creatively adapted to offer online discover permaculture courses called ‘Regenerative Journeys’. They recently certified 10 new Permaculture Teachers. Currently, they have been designing some innovative courses on advanced permaculture and mentoring projects. They are in the process of developing a ‘Diploma in Permaculture Design’ Program for the Non-Profit sector.
KUTTS
Systems Thinker, Permaculture Designer & Educator, Optimist & Global Citizen
He is a.k.a Rakshith Kuttappa. He has worn multiple hats in search of himself and has pursued Technology research, Organization Development, Leadership Coaching, Large scale change interventions in communities, Systems design thinking, Journalism, Outdoor Education, Wilderness adventures in remote corners of the world, etc. To complete the loop of his search, he got back to his roots of Permaculture upbringing and became a certified design practitioner and educator under the mentorship and pioneers of Permaculture like Narsanna Koppula, Rosemary Morrow, Tom Kendall, Lusi Alderslowe, Starhawk, Charles Wiliams, and other on-ground practitioners. He is currently involved in many design assignments in different climate bioregions. He has taught PDCs in Manipur, Nagaland, Goa, Darjeeling, Aranya, and many other related workshops. His key interest areas in Permaculture are Restoration & Regenerative systems, System modeling, Biomimicry, Social Permaculture, Design for Disaster Mitigation, Hydrogeology and spring shed management, Rural development, Edible School Gardens, and Children/Parents in Permaculture initiatives. Some of his other work has been to enable to individuals to lead and teach outdoor experiential education courses, enabling organization leaders to facilitate team excellence through Leadership coaching and mentoring social entrepreneurs to believe in their calling for the greater good of the planet. He is actively involved in mentoring non-profits in transformations and pushing their potential awareness to real tangibles.
MADHU REDDY
Permaculture Practitioner, Designer & Educator, Soil Nerd & Visual Artist
She has been redesigning her monoculture peri-urban family farm near Hyderabad according to Permaculture principles to make it not only sustainable ecologically but economically. This involves production to market the produce directly to urban consumers. A large part of her work also includes facilitating information about regeneration, organic farming, sustainability, in general educating folks about the same. Among her teachers are Rosemary Morrow, Narsanna Koppula, Rico Zook, and her farm team! Ever educating herself she’s done an advanced soil course with Clea Chandmal. She has collaborated to conduct beginner permaculture workshops and was a guest faculty at Permaculture Design Courses with Rico Zook and Narsanna Koppula. She has taught full PDCs in Manipur, Nagaland, Goa, and Darjeeling. As a faculty in a farm school, her work involves taking Permaculture to young adults. Madhu also brings to the table her management and organizational skills from her past corporate experience in 3 different continents. An avid traveler and photographer she uses the medium to share her work and bring a visual perspective to conversations for the urban consumer about the good food movement. An earnest sharer of information, she moderates an online forum Seed to Soil – back to basics which discusses all things permaculture to ensure knowledge is crowdsourced and spread.
TEACHING ASSISTANTS
We have a diverse pool of talented PTT/PDC holders who would like to further practice their skills of teaching permaculture. They come from varied backgrounds & practices and belong to different climate zones & bioregions. We mentor them to further their teaching knowledge and they will be part of PDC playing a vital role of support for the course progression and learning outcomes.
